The third annual Michael Chang Tennis Classic tournament was a huge success raising $63,000 for charity!  This year’s recipients were an orphanage for special needs children in Tianjin, China through the Prince of Peace Foundation, and the Chang Family Foundation.

The MCTC Kick-Off Clinic, the USTA tournament, and the high school division had over 750 players, 55 volunteers and countless spectators watching the competition and participating in the festivities at the Newport Beach Tennis Club.  This year the MCTC tournament had its first ever player party hosted by NBTC with dinner and dancing late into the night.

The Kick-off Clinic, the weekend before the main tournament, treated 150 players to tennis lessons by an amazing group of world class professionals including the tournament’s name sake, Michael Chang!  The clinic was followed by an evening exhibition match with a courtside dinner while Michael Chang, Rick Leach, Vince Spadea, and Scott Davis battled it out on center court.

In the main MCTC tournament, winning the Men’s Open Singles was Jochem Hoefnagels who defeated Tim Mudrick, 6-3, 6-4.  In the Women’s Open Singles, Trang Huynh beat Kelly Chen, 6-3, 7-5.  And in the Mixed Open Doubles, Ace Matias and Mazy Watrous defeated Miranda Carvalho and Tyler Jackson, 6-3, 6-2.

With the support of our generous sponsors, some of which include Honda Motor America, VantaQuest, TriGuard Management, Nestlé, Affinity Investments, Wells Fargo, Yogurtland, Charles Schwab (please visit our 2013 Sponsor Page for a complete list of sponsors), the monies raised will be used by the Prince of Peace Foundation for their special needs orphanage and the Chang Family Foundation for its community outreach programs.
